Henry the Eighth introducing Margret Thatcher or Lucille Ball? P.T. Barnum asking Barbie inventor Ruth Handler questions? These are some of the fun interactions that will take place during the Artown Performances of the Silver State Young Chautauqua scholars.
Professional Chatauquans Frank X. Mullen and Doug Mishler will be in character and moderating the evening performances at the Auto Museum on June 14th and 15th. The young scholars will be portraying well known characters such as Eva Peron, Helen Keller, Lucille Ball, Sarah Winchester, CoCo Chanel, Georgia O’Keeffe, and World War II ace Joe Foss. Lesser known but fascinating characters include Civil War hero Levi Bird Duff, the father of modern marketing Edward Bernays, labor leader Phillip Murray, and the woman who founded toy company Mattel Ruth Handler.
There are two performances per day. The morning performances begin at 9 AM on both Tuesday and Wednesday. These are moderated by the Young Chautauquans themselves. They are a bit less formal than the evening performances that begin at 7 PM.
The Auto Museum is a perfect venue with an intimate professional theater and free parking. They are located at 10 Lake Street in Reno. The parking lot is located on Mill Street and Museum Drive. All performances are free.
